Recap
Manassas, VA — Originally slated to play September 14th, Colgan and Osbourn Park finally met Friday night. This time there was no hurricane to affect the game, and not a cloud in the sky. Despite the ideal playing conditions, the Yellow Jackets suffered a 38-13 loss to Colgan.
Days of rain leading up to the game made for poor field conditions at OP, therefore the “home” game was played on the Shark’s turf field.
The Sharks received the ball to begin the game, but a poor snap on third down led to a sack by sophomore linebacker Chris Martin. It jarred the ball loose, and OP took over at Colgan’s 37-yard line.
OP’s ensuing drive would eat up a lot of clock, but they would come away empty-handed with a turnover on downs. Colgan took over on offense, and on third and long they had the Sharks on their heels. Two Yellow Jackets had the opposing quarterback dead to rights, but the signal-caller would escape for what seemed like a 43-yard rushing touchdown. There would be a flag for holding, and the ball would come back to the 23-yard line. Colgan would score on an 8-yard rushing touchdown a few plays later to take a 7-0 lead with 2:27 left in the first quarter.
The Yellow Jacket offense would stall on the next drive, and Colgan would make them pay as they marched down the field and capped it off with a 3-yard rushing score to go up 14-0 with 6:32 left in the half.
OP would be forced to punt again, and Luke Nitowksi would drill the ball 42 yards. He had another 42-yard punt later in the game as well. The Sharks stayed on the attack, tearing off a 53-yard rush that had them on the verge of another score. Osbourn Park’s defense held strong and Nitowski charged up the middle to block a field goal attempt. OP would take over at their own 29-yard line. An interception a few plays later would halt their attack.
Colgan wasted no time. Two plays later, they threw a 45-yard touchdown pass to go up 21-0 right before the half ended.
Osbourn Park received the ball to start off the second half, and Eddie Ostrander would be behind center. He would connect with sophomore running back Amin Davis for 50 yards as the Yellow Jackets were inside the redzone at Colgan’s 13-yard line. They would wear down the Sharks’ defense and Chris Martin would finish off the drive with a 2-yard rushing score. OP would trail 21-7 with 7:49 left in the third quarter.
Colgan would take over at their own 35-yard line, but their drive would be cut short when Connor Westhoff intercepted a pass and returned it to the 28-yard line. Ostrander and company would once again push the ball downfield similar to their previous drive. This time, though, they struggled to punch it in. Anthony Smoot would return to the game and run the ball in from three yards out. OP would trail 21-13 after a missed extra point with 1:55 left in the third quarter.
Osbourn Park’s defense would force Colgan to kick a field goal, and they would convert from 31 yards out to take a 24-13 lead with 11:07 left in the game. OP would take over at their own 8-yard line. Ostrander would throw an interception that would be returned for a touchdown, and the Sharks had a commanding 31-13 lead.
Following another errant pass, Colgan would use the prime field position to run the ball from 7 yards out and seal the game for a 38-13 victory to go to 2-3 on the season.
Osbourn Park would fall to 1-4. They travel to Woodbridge to face the 1-4 Gar-Field Indians this Friday night at 7 pm.
