Marlborough, MA — Wachusett entered the Central Mass Hockey Tournament as the #1 seed and would play #4 Marlboro. After a scoreless first period, Marlboro would score a power play goal at 6:37 of the second period. This game was a back and forth battle with outstanding goaltending on both sides. The score remained 1-0 until the final minutes of the third period. Wachusett went on a man advantage, but after a couple good opportunities, Marlboro would block a shot and race down the ice on a 2 on 1 and score to take a 2-0 lead with just 2:12 to play in the game. Still on the power play, Wachusett would pull the goalie for a 6 on 4 advantage, but a Marlboro defenseman would turn and fire the puck the length of the ice and into the back of the empty net to make the score 3-0 with 1:19 to play. Marlboro would add one more goal on a breakaway with just 14 seconds remaining to cap off the scoring at 4-0 and advance to the finals of the CMass Tourney. The loss drops Wachusett to 12 and 7 on the season and sends them to the consolation game where they will meet Nashoba on Wednesday at 2 pm at Navin. The teams have split their first two games this year.
