Fairfield, CA — On Saturday, 3/9 the Vanden JV Vikings downed the Falcons from Christian Brothers High School by a score of 9-7 in a non-league game. The win improves their record to 3-2 for the season. The Vikings were led on the mound by starting pitcher Ryan Watson. The right-handed sophomore had given up only a single to the leadoff batter of the game through 4 innings and ultimately be credited with the win. Things got a little rocky in the 5th inning as the Falcons had eight consecutive batters reach base between Watson and freshman reliever Mikalani Saavedra. The JV Vikings once again had to call on the services of Dylan Pineda. The freshman closed the door and collected his 3rd save of the season. The Vikings were led on offense by the pitching staff of the visiting team who issued 12 walks to Vanden batters. As a team the Vikings collected only 4 hits. Mikalani Saavedra and Corbin Erickson each had singles and 2 runs scored. Nolan Brewer was 1 for 1 with 2 runs batted in and a run scored. The contest was called after 5 innings (on a Saturday afternoon) due to the new CIF JV Time Limit Rule. Send your fan mail to the CIF (California Interscholastic Federation). The JV Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday, 3/13 when they host Laguna Creek High School(Elk Grove) in a non-league game.
