Fairfield, CA — On Saturday, 2/24 the Vanden JV Vikings defeated the Raiders from River City High School by the score of 7-6. The win improves the team record to 1-1 on the season. The Vikings offense made some noise today. They were led by Lucky Perez (2-3, 2 RBI’s, 2 stolen bases & 1 run scored), Max Stephenson (2-3 & 1 RBI), Willie Ward (1-3, 2 RBI & 1 stolen base) and Gino Scerbo (1-3, double, 2 RBI’s, 1 run scored & 1 stolen base). Stephenson and Ward both made dazzling diving catches in their outfield positions, and they each had an assist as well. The pitchers and defense were both solid. Mikalani Saavedra was credited for the win. He pitched 3 innings in relief, allowing 0 runs and only 2 hits. He struck out 3 Raiders and only walked 1. Dylan Pineda was called upon late in the game to close it out for the Vikings. He got the job done and was credited with the save.
