Bethlehem, PA — Freedom ended Tuesday with the win and proof that this season had a different feel. The Pates came into their rematch against Becahi just 24 hours after dropping a tuff game to Northampton. Freedom played solid in the 3-6 lose but just didn’t have enough go their way. But they would have to find a way to quickly forget about that and move on to Becahi who earlier this month held Freedom to just 2 hits in a 0-1 lose. Unfortunately, before the crowd could even find their seats, Becahi would get their first two batters of the game on first and second followed by a double off the wall scoring two runs. To the Patriots credit, this would be the point in this game that showed this years Pates are different. Chase Walker would be the first man to step up and set the tone for The Patriots comeback. After the “right jab” from Becahi’s first three batters, Walker would sit down the next three batters via the strikeout to get out of the inning only down 2 runs. Chase proceeded over the next 5 innings to be the ace he has been all season long holding Becahi scoreless the rest of the way giving his offense time to have a big inning. That inning came in the 4th when Peluso lined a double to right field. Walker would prove to be an asset at the plate as well, as he followed that with a single to put runners at the corners with 1 out. Ryan Kullman would plate the first run for Freedom with a seeing-eye-single to the right side of the infield. Kiefner followed that with a RBI single to right to tie the game at 2-2. Then a little love from the baseball gods would come their way in the form of 3 wild pitches scoring Kullman and Kiefner to put The Patriots up 4-2 after 4 innings. Walker worked through the next 2 innings in shut down fashion ending his performance with 6 innings pitched, while recording 9 strikeouts, and only surrendering 2 hits after that 1st inning. Patriots would add an insurance run in the bottom of the 6th inning to make the score 5-2 and set the table for Matt Heineman to take the mound in the 7th. Heineman would make light work of the bottom half of Becahi’s order to seal the deal and record the save for the 5-2 Freedom win. Freedom is now 11 and 7 on the season and has two games remaining in the regular season. As they go into their last week, The Patriots have put themselves in a good position to guarantee themselves a spot in district playoffs as well as being right in the middle of a fight for an EPC playoff birth.
