All Smiles after Trinity League opener win :)
San Juan Capistrano, CA — This was a huge win for our JV team in our Trinity League opener, in several ways.
First, it’s a great way to start League. Beating Mater Dei at any sport, any level is a good day.
All of our available subs got into the match, and the singles players who subbed in got to play their top 3 singles players, which gave us some useful validations.
Last, but most important, we won each round 5-1. Robert Thornton, who went 2 for 2 today, played a long opening set at #1 and fought back for a 7-5 win.
In that same opening round, Michael Aceves and Alex Gibson won a 7-6 tiebreaker set at #2 Doubles. Opening up with 5-1 margin gave us huge “shock and awe” momentum. Going into round 2 tied 3-3 would have made this a totally different match.
Our other 2 starting singles players, HB Warner and Kayden Kral both won 2 for 2 today - well done.
Luke Krolikowski teamed with Enzo Biundo and went 2 for 2 with wins in rounds 1 & 2. Lucas Johnson and Jacob LeBrun went 3 for 3 today, winning all 3 doubles matches.
Alex Trask stepped in with Michael Aceves to blank the #2 team 6-0 in round # 3.
Johnny Tavares and Thomas Gormley came “off the bench” to take care of their top 2 players in the 3rd round,
The whole team was MVP today. Subs and starters won all 3 sets at line 1 singles, line 2 singles, line 2 doubles and line 3 doubles for 12 of our 15 sets. Pretty balanced attack. Well played team.
Next up: Tuesday, March 19th at SMCHS, 3pm.
