NY — Burnt Hills Spartans topped Albany Falcons 2-1 on Friday after taking the lead late in the game. The game was tied at one in the bottom of the fifth when Ben Yerina executed a perfect safety squeeze bunt. Albany made the throw to the plate, but Atticus Marvin slid in safely to score the go ahead run. Both teams were strong on the bump. The Spartans pitchers struck out 12, while Albany sat down four. BHBL got on the board in the fourth inning after Jack Sunkes hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Logan McNeal from third. Nathan Kendall singled, which helped Albany tie the game at one in the top of the fifth. Logan McNeal earned the win for the Spartans. He gave up four hits and one run over five innings, striking out eight and walking three. Ben Viggiani took the loss for Albany. The starting pitcher went five innings, surrendering two runs (one earned) on one hit, striking out four and walking four. Timothy Venditti collected the save with 4 strikeout in 2 IP. Silas Marvin and Matt Martin each collected one hit for Burnt Hills. Sunkes and Yerina each drove in one run. Yerina and Venditti each stole multiple bases, the team stole five bases in the game. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Spartans were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Hunter Rauhauser made the most plays with 12. Nyzir Bickley, Tommy Bishop, Kendall, and Jackson Shahinfar each collected one hit for Albany Varsity Falcons. Kendall went 1-for-3 at the plate as the second baseman led the team with one run batted in. Bishop stole three bases. Albany Varsity Falcons turned one double play in the game. Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake Varsity Spartans play at home on Saturday against Queensbury in their next game.
