Westborough, MA — Three goals in the first period and 5 more in the third were enough to cover up a weak 2nd period en route to an 8-3 win over Nashoba. Trevor Staiti started his first career game for Wachusett stopping 25 of 28 shots to earn the win. Parker Meyer got the scoring going just 1:52 into the 1st period picking up the puck from a scrum in front of the net and poking it home. Trais Laidlaw and Matt Brousseau picked up assists. Cody Penniman would score the next 2 Wachusett goals at 7:02 and 12:52 giving Wachusett a 3-0 lead going into the 1st intermission. Ethan Bennett and Jason Flaherty assisted on those goals respectively, with the 3rd goal being shorthanded. Three penalties would plague the Mountaineers in the second period as the Wolves scored 2 power play goals and 1 at even strength tying the score at 3 to start the 3rd period. Five different Mountaineers would find the back of the net in the third period with Caden Lane starting the scoring at 42 seconds in (his first career goal). Laidlaw would score at 6:37, Parker Meyer at 10:34. Cody Penniman would cap off his hat trick at 11:13 and Jason Flaherty would finish the scoring at 14:03. Freshman Ethan Bennett recorded 3 assists. Sophomore Jake Penniman notched an assist. Brothers Matt Brousseau (2) and Nick Brousseau (1) combined for 3 assists and Senior Captain Thomas Willman picked up an assist as well. Great to see the depth of scoring on the roster and excellent goaltending by Staiti.
