Westborough, MA — On opening night, Wachusett welcomed back former player, captain and coach Chris Lane in his new role as Assistant Coach at Scituate. Chris was instrumental in setting up this game between the two squads. Parker Meyer got things off to a great start scoring just 27 seconds into the 1st period on a great feed from Matt Bjorkman. Scituate would take a 2-1 lead before Bjorkman would tie the game at 2, scoring a shorthanded goal on an assist by Jason Flaherty. Wachusett would score 3 straight goals in the 2nd period. Flaherty put Wachusett up 3-2 on another shorthanded goal assisted by Cody Penniman. Stone Lane extended the lead to 4-2 on his first goal of the year (unassisted) and Travis Laidlaw would make it 5-2 with 10 minutes left to play in the 2nd. Assists went to linemates Meyer and Bjorkman. Scituate called a timeout and pulled their starting goalie and began their comeback scoring two goals before the end of the 2nd period and 1 more early in the 3rd to tie the score at 5. With just over 5 minutes to play, Stone Lane cut across a faceoff and wristed home a shot to put Wachusett up 6-5. That goal was assisted by Clark Gardula. But, just 22 seconds later, Scituate would again tie the score sending the game to OT and eventually win just 7 seconds in to OT on a nice tip play out front.
