Moscow, PA — From the Standard Speaker Freshman Sophia Benyo scored all 10 of her points in the second quarter to help Hazleton Area erase an early deficit and spark the Lady Cougars past host North Pocono in non-league action, Thursday evening. The Trojans (2-1) jumped out to a 15-13 lead after one quarter behind Ella Clementoni’s five points. Freshman Kaitlyn Bindas had the hot hand for Hazleton Area with eight of her team-high 16 points. With Benyo finding her groove and Alexis Reimold adding four points in the second quarter, the Lady Cougars outscored North Pocono 18-12 to take a 31-27 into halftime. Reimold tacked on another four points and four teammates contributed a bucket apiece in the third period as Hazleton Area extended its advantage to 44-36 entering the final quarter. Reimold then scored six more points, including four free throws, Lagowy drained her third triple of the night and Bindas added points in the final eight minutes to keep the Trojans at bay. Reimold and Lagowy finished behind Bindas on the visitors’ scoresheet with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Clementoni topped North Pocono with 21 points. Kylie Mastillo had 11 and Celia DeCesare was right behind with 10. Hazleton Area returns home for a non-league game against Williamsport on Tuesday.
