Bad Axe, MI — Cass City Red Hawks Varsity won big over Bad Axe Varsity Hatchets 12-2 on Friday at Bad Axe High School. Bad Axe Varsity Hatchets opened the scoring in the top of the first thanks to two singles. Bad Axe Varsity Hatchets first got on the board when Nathan Pawlowski singled, scoring one run. Cass City Red Hawks Varsity took the lead in the bottom of the second. Jackson Anthony doubled, scoring two runs, to give Cass City Red Hawks Varsity the edge, 4-2. Cass City Red Hawks Varsity extended their early lead with three runs in the bottom of the third thanks to RBI singles by Gavin Franzel, Carson Anthes, and Cohen Sherman. Cass City Red Hawks Varsity scored five runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Anthes was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Luke Tschirhart doubled, scoring two runs, and Carter Patrick singled, scoring two runs. Trent Patrick earned the win for Cass City Red Hawks Varsity. The righty surrendered three hits and two runs over three innings, striking out two and walking one. Evan McAlpine took the loss for Bad Axe Varsity Hatchets. The starting pitcher went four innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, striking out one and walking none. Hayden Anthes tossed two innings of scoreless ball for Cass City Red Hawks Varsity in relief. The right-handed pitcher gave up one hit, striking out four and walking two. Cass City Red Hawks Varsity accumulated 14 hits in the game. Anthes, Patrick, Matt Mellendorf, and Anthes each collected two hits for Cass City Red Hawks Varsity. Anthony, Anthes, Tschirhart, and Patrick each drove in two runs for Cass City Red Hawks Varsity. Pawlowski and Evan Eisinger each drove in one run for Bad Axe Varsity Hatchets. Pawlowski stole three bases. Bad Axe Varsity Hatchets stole five bases in the game. Cass City Red Hawks Varsity will travel to EPBP Lakers to take on the Sandusky Varsity Wolves in Pre-district action on Tuesday May 28th at 5pm.
