Dunmore, PA — Dunmore amassed 502 yards in total offense in a 49-22 win over Susquehanna in the District 2 Class 2A semifinals Friday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Danny Pigga led the charge, running for 154 yards and adding two receptions for 124 yards while scoring three touchdowns. Thomas Bowen made efficient use out of his four pass completions, as they totaled 188 yards with three going for touchdowns. Dunmore will host Riverside in the District 2 Class 2A championship game Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. The Vikings defeated Mid Valley, 28-6 in the other semifinal The Bucks got rolling on their first possession, thanks Jake Hickey taking the direct snap from center on a fake punt and rambling 27 yards to give the Bucks a first down deep in Sabers territory. Two plays later, Pigga took a handoff on a counter play 35 yards for a touchdown. Following a Susquehanna punt, Dunmore went on an 11-play, 57-yard drive with Pigga doing most of the work on the ground. Facing third down from the 18, Bowen stood cooly in the pocket and hit a wide-open Nick Donvito in the back of the end zone with the scoring strike. On the Bucks next offensive play, Bowen hit Pigga streaking down the left hash marks with a 48-yard scoring strike. Then, both defenses settled down, forcing punts on consecutive possessions. Following a 23-yard Pigga run, Gabe Franek took a handoff through the center of line, made a move to his left and jogged into the endzone untouched from 23 yards out. Susquehanna’s offense then came alive, going 61 yards in 10 plays. Weston Yannone’s 5-yard burst over the left side put the Sabers on the board. In the closing seconds of the first half the combination of Bowen-to-Pigga struck gold as Pigga hauled in a 76-yard pass to conclude the first-half scoring. The Sabers went on a 7-minute, 65-yard drive to start the third quarter. Susquehanna relied on its ground game to keep the ball away from the Bucks. William Marcy’s 3-yard run resulted in a Sabers touchdown. Susquehanna then successfully executed an onsides kick only to see the drive peter out. Late in the third quarter, Dunmore went 75 yards on 6 plays — all on the ground. Bowen bulled his way in the end zone from 3 yards out. The Sabers defense stopped the Bucks deep inside their own territory. Marcy’s 19-yard run was a key play in the drive. Marcy capped the drive with a 1-yard scoring run. Dunmore playing mostly with reserves, marched 72 yards in eight plays. Izaiah Parker rushed for 44 of those yards with the last yard ending the night’s scoring.
