Zion, IL — In a high-scoring affair, the Zee-Bees fell to the Rolling Meadows Mustangs on Saturday.
The Zee-Bees fell behind after a 3-run first inning, however, they struck back in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs after Dom DIliberti and AJ Neargarder reached base getting hit by a pitch. Brayden Duran hit a single, scoring courtesy runner Kaden Oatsvall. Neargarder scored two batters later when Andrew Mitchell grounded out to second.
The Mustangs struck back in the top of the second, scoring two more runs and the Bees tried to keep pace in the bottom half of the inning. After Aaden Grider walked, Ryan Dunne singled, moving Grider to second. Grider would later steal third and score on a sacrifice fly by Dom Diliberti. Ryan Dunne would later steal second but would be stranded there when a strikeout ended the inning.
The Mustangs extended their lead again in the top of the 3rd, plating an additional three runs. They would add to their lead in the top of the 5th, scoring three more, making the Zee-Bees deficit 11-3. However, the Bees did not quit striking again in the 6th inning.
Andrew Mitchell would start the hitting after a strike-out, lacing a double. Jack Marabella would walk, with Mitchell advancing to third on a wild pitch. Aaden Grider would get his first varsity hit, roping a double to left, scoring both Mitchell and Marabella. Grider would steal third and score on a throwing error by the catcher, making the score 11-6.
Rolling Meadows would score two more runs again in the top of the 7th, pushing the score to 13-6. However, the Zee-Bees had one last rally in them.
Ryan Dunne would keep the Zee-Bees hopes alive with two outs, reaching base on an error. Mikey Gonzalez would also reach base on an error, breathing hope into a Bees comeback. Andrew Mitchell came up and laced another double scoring both Dunne and Gonzalez. Jack Marabella would join the comeback, singling home Mitchell. Unfortunately, the comeback would end as the next batter struck out to end the ball game.
Jake Mitchell made his Varsity debut on the mound, going 5 innings, striking out 1.
The Zee-Bees return to action Monday against Lake Forest.
