Council, VA — Twin Valley 3, Council 0 It was raining down kills and aces on Council’s defenders Monday night in the semifinals of the Black Diamond District tournament and most of them were courtesy of Twin Valley’s Rayne Hawthorne. Hawthorne had 14 kills, 19 digs and nine aces as the Panthers posted an 18-25, 25-16, 25-19, 28-26 victory over the Council Cobras. “Rayne has had an excellent season,” said Twin Valley coach Brittany Russell Belcher. “She plays a huge part in our offense and defense. She has really stepped up as a leader this year and has done a good job keeping the girls up and encouraging them.” Leya Vanover (11 kills, four digs), Kiarra Gross (19 assists, 18 digs), Chey Davis (24 digs), Ashleigh Davis (14 assists, 14 digs) and Dezi Deel (21 digs, five kills, four aces) also played well for TV. “Our girls never gave up, even after coming out and losing that first set they kept fighting and kept hustling,” Belcher said. “They kept finding ways to score.” Ella Rasnake had 43 digs, three aces and two kills to lead Council, while Bella Ratliff had 11 service points and three kills in the loss. “It was a hard-fought win,” Belcher said. “I always applaud Council for their hustle because they never quit and never give up.”
