Curtis Jackson Dishes Career-High 11 Assists as Cardinals Ease to Fourth Straight Win

University Center, MI — UNIVERSITY CENTER, Mich. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team eased to a 91-38 win over Adrian College on Tuesday night inside of O'Neill Arena. The Cardinals (4-2) have now won four straight with the win over the Bulldogs (0-7).
Freddie McIntosh led the team with 22 points after shooting 8-12 from the floor and 5-7 from deep in the contest. Tre Garrett added 16 points while Dylan West notched 15 points for his second-consecutive game hitting double digits. Maurice Barnett was the fourth Cardinal with over 10 points as he netted 12 after shooting 5-6 on the night. Curtis Jackson hit a career-high in assists with 11 as he played the main contributor for the SVSU offense.
Ethan Hill hit the game's first jumper with 28 seconds off the clock and the Cardinals never looked back on the way to a 10-2 run that turned into a 23-point lead by halftime (43-20). Hill ended the game with six points, four of which came in the first 20 minutes of play. SVSU scored 11 points off eight Adrian turnovers in the first half to build the lead at the break.
The Cardinals forced another 12 turnovers in the second half as they completed the night with 26 points off Bulldog missteps. Barnett scored 10 of his 12 points in the final 20 minutes of play as he made four of his five shot attempts including going 2-3 from deep. Jackson put a bow on the win with a steal that led to an easy layup in the final six seconds of the contest and put the score at its final resting place.
Saginaw Valley State finished the game with 25 assists (just one short of the season-high of 26 that was hit against Kuyper). The Cardinals registered a season-high 13 steals as a team.
SVSU will remain at home for a game on Friday against Alma at 7:00 p.m. The game against the Scots will be the final home game before the Cardinals make the trip to the Upper Peninsula to begin Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play the following week at Michigan Tech (Thur. Dec. 7) and Northern Michigan (Sat. Dec. 9).
