Tonganoxie, KS — The boys fought tough tonight and came out with a 2-0 win vs a 6A opponent. The boys started strong and were able to create opportunities but nothing fell into the net. The boys had a few corners as well in the first half but weren't able to capitalize. The rest of the first half was back and forth as no team really seamed to dominate the game. The second half was really a different story. Our boys came out strong and really worked hard to create chances. Shots were being taken and crosses were had but nothing was finding the net. We were creating so many chances that we received 2 penalty kicks. Both kicks were missed but the boys didn't let that stop them. Near the end of regulation the boys found themselves with a corner kick. Caeder was able to put a ball in and Gavin used his head to put the ball in the back corner of the net. It was a textbook finish and everything you would hope for. With 2 minutes left in the game Jameson found the ball and took a touch around a defender to have a shot. The shot was saved by the keeper but Carter came crashing in out of nowhere to have the easy finish on the backside of the goal. I feel as a coach we are always screaming " Follow the shot!" This time it wasn't needed as Carter came in clutch to secure a 2-0 victory for us. To single out one single player for this game would be wrong of me. This was a team effort and took every player to get the victory. When these boys play together i truly believe they can take on the best of the best. We are finally getting healthy and finding out confidence and it is a joy to see. Every game i try to get at least one player who hasn't been playing much with varsity a look. Today Josiah Weatherford was that guy. He stepped up and did very well. It was fun to see his athleticism and how he can impact that game going forward. Lastly, Happy Birthday Wesley Johnson!! It was a great way to end a birthday evening!
