Huntington Beach, CA — What a great win for our young squad this afternoon! It came down to the last few points, with all the pressure on Jenny Ji. She got into a tie-breaker and won it 7-2, which gave us a 9-9 tie in sets, with a 68-67 win by game count! Congrats to Jenny, one of the days’s MVP’s. Backtracking a bit, we started the match by discussing the lineup - basically giving MOST of the people who didn’t get to play Monday the opportunity to play twice. Some of our more experienced players therefore were only assigned to play once. So this was truly a team effort all the way down the line. MVP honors are going out today to those who won 100% of sets played (singles players were assigned 1 set each today). In the opening round we swept singles 6-0 across the board!!! Flo Michael #1, Maddie Tran #2, and Lauren Harkins #3 all blanked their opponents 6-0. Sydney Veazey won easily 6-1 in round #2, while Chloe Gallaher won a crucial 8th set for us by a 6-1 margin as well in the final round. This gave Jenny and the team a fighting chance to tie and win on game count. 6 of our set wins came from all these MVP singles players, some who had not played singles yet this year. Congrats to all of you. All of the doubles players got to play 2 sets today. Only 1 got 2 set wins to join the 100% and MVP club today: congrats to Sydney Shaw who won opening round with Gianna Gancar and again in the 3rd round with Boxi Gambol. Jackie Thielman and Emily Volk won a doubles set 6-2 in round # 2. Analia TEeaft and Emily played a great set against their top doubles team in the 3rd round, even though they came up a bit short in a tie-breaker.ee Every game counts, as evidenced by today’s match. Next up: A&B squads at Canyon, Wed. October 4th, 2:30 pm.
