Charlotte, MI — CHARLOTTE- Ionia (2-3, 2-2) dropped a close one to Charlotte 23-22. Charlotte scored on the first play of the game to take a 8-0 lead. Ionia scored 16 points in the second quarter on a Travis Tucker Jr. touchdown run and conversion. Tucker scored again on a 25 rush. The conversion was no good to give Ionia a 14-8 lead. Ionia was able to get a safety right before half on an Aden Wenzel tackle in the endzone to give Ionia a 16-8 lead. Tucker finished with 128 rush yards and 2 TDs. Charlotte scored two TDs in the third quarter to take a 23-16 lead. Brennan Brownell scored with under five minutes in the 4th quarter to pull Ionia within one, but the two point conversion failed and Charlotte was able to run out the clock. Brownell finished the game with 73 yards rushing. Tucker completed 8 passes for 113 yards and Spencer Tooker had 4 receptions for 54 yards. Tooker added five tackles and Wyatt Erridge and Brennan Brownell each added sacks for Ionia. Ionia travels to Sexton next Friday for a 6:00 start.
