Rochester, MI — The Highlanders Freshman Football team eked out a 24-21 victory over their rival Clarkston Thursday evening. The Adams team showed initial strength in the opening drive, reaching the end zone in seven snaps, sticking with the run, and then forcing Clarkston to punt from their own 35 yard line after only five plays. But then the Highlanders struggled both offensively and defensively for the remainder of the first half, with Clarkston putting up 21 unanswered points. After the half time, the Adams team came back strong, getting an interception within 37 seconds of the second half, and then opening up their passing game to quickly bring the score to 14-21. And adjustments in the Adams defense shut down the Clarkston passing game, quickly forcing them to punt, giving Adams yet another touchdown drive. Both teams played tough the whole 4th quarter, but the Highlanders broke the 21-21 stalemate by making a 37 yard field goal with less than 2 minutes left in the game. Yes, a team of 9th graders kicked a 37 yard field goal, and then stopped the Clarkston team with another interception, making this a very satisfying win against a reputable opponent. Good job Highlanders!
