Honesdale, PA — A big special teams play gave Honesdale the momentum in its Lackawanna Football Conference game against Dunmore on Friday. Then, Dunmore took it back on the next play from scrimmage. Danny Pigga ran 76 yards for a touchdown, breaking a tie with 9:31 left in the third quarter, and sparking the fifth-ranked Bucks to a 47-21 victory. Pigga had three touchdowns, all of which either tied the game or gave the Bucks the lead, Thomas Bowen had a pair of touchdown passes as Dunmore (7-2) won its fifth straight game. The teams played a close first half with Honesdale relying on the running of Mason Avery, who scored on a 1-yard run to give the Hornets a 7-0 lead with 10:23 left in the second quarter. Dunmore answered with a 5-play, 62-yard drive, capped by Pigga’s 7-yard run that tied the game, 7-7, with 8:34 left in the first half. The Bucks took the lead, 14-7, with 16 seconds left in the first half when Bowen found Pigga in the corner of the end zone on an 11-yard strike. On the first play after the ensuing kickoff, Pigga broke off his long touchdown run on a counter play and the Bucks were back in front, 21-4 with 9:31 left in the third. Following a drive into Dunmore territory that ended on a turnover on downs, Bowen hooked up with Domenic DeSando on a 63-yard touchdown pass for a 27-14 lead with 3:18 left in the third quarter. After another turnover on downs, it did not take the Bucks long to find the end zone again. This time, Jake Hickey scored on a 7-yard run as the lead grew to 33-14 with 10:54 remaining in the fourth quarter. Brayden Reuther scored on a 1-yard run and Logan Miller added a 16-yard touchdown reception from Brayden Canavan with :55 remaining in the game for the Bucks. Gabe Duda had a short touchdown run with 5:16 left in the fourth quarter for Honesdale’s other score in the game.
