Factoryville, PA — CLINTON TWP. — Lackawanna Trail rebounded from a sluggish first quarter to score six touchdowns in the middle two quarters to earn a 39-13 victory over Honesdale on Friday in a nonconference football game. Demetrius Douglas led a balanced running attack with 89 yards and a touchdown; Hunter Patterson added 71 yards and two touchdowns; and Lukas Gumble had 67 yards rushing and two touchdowns to lead the fourth-ranked Lions, who improved to 4-0 heading into a matchup against Dunmore next week. “Honesdale came out and took it to us early,” Lackawanna Trail coach Steve Jervis said. “We (The coaches) had to make some adjustments defensively, and the kids responded.” Honesdale (0-4) took the opening kick and marched 61 yards to the Lackawanna Trail 4. The Hornets stalled there, but the 16-play drive chewed up 6 minutes and 49 seconds of the first quarter. Lackawanna Trail then had a quick three-and-out, giving the ball right back to the Hornets’ offense. Honesdale cashed in this time, with quarterback Aiden Collins pushing into the end zone from the 1-yard line and a 7-0 lead with 15 seconds left in the first quarter. By that time, Honesdale had 24 plays for 105 total yards, while Lackawanna Trail had three plays for 1 yard. Things changed dramatically in the second quarter. he Lions scored on all three possessions and held a 21-7 halftime lead, then had three more touchdown runs in the third quarter. “I think once we were able to get into that rhythm, we kind of took off,” coach Steve Jervis said. Gumble and Patterson each had touchdown runs in the second quarter to give the Lions a 14-7 lead. Lackawanna Trail quarterback Stephen Jervis hit Max Kimmel deep down the middle of the field for a 36-yard scoring strike just before halftime. In the third, Lackawanna Trail scored on all three of its possessions. The Lions wasted little time extending their lead when Douglas took a handoff and weaved through the defense for a 68-yard touchdown run just two plays into the third. Gumble and Patterson each added their second touchdown later in the quarter. Mason Avery carried 22 times for 126 rushing yards for Honesdale.
