Masuk 3, New Fairfield 2
New Fairfield, CT — In the game of baseball, unlike in any other sport, you can throw the records and seedings out the window. Masuk High, the No. 8 seed in the South-West Conference Tournament, proved this to be the case with a 3-2 extra inning win at top seed New Fairfield in the quarterfinals Sunday.
The game was decided in the eighth inning and, with the win, Masuk will play No. 5 Joel Barlow in the semis at neutral site Bethel High, this Monday, May 22, at 7 p.m. No. 2 Brookfield and No. 6 Bethel meet in the other semifinal.
Greg Nivison pitched 6 innings and struck out 10, while allowing 6 hits and 2 runs. He got a no decision.
New Fairfield scored both of its runs in the bottom of the third to take a 2-0 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Deven LaRoche scored the game tying run, scoring on a wild pitch.
Masuk scored the decisive run the eighth when Drew Scalia singled, advanced to second on a wild pitch, then scored on a one-out Carson Falcone double.
