Byron Center, MI — Both pitching staffs had their hands full on Saturday in a high-scoring affair where Byron Center Bulldogs bested Caledonia, 13-7. The Scots struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Byron Center Varsity Bulldogs, giving up 13 runs. The Bulldogs took an early lead in the first inning. An error scored two runs for Byron Center Bulldogs. In the top of the third inning, the Scots tied things up at five. Jace Lawton singled on a 0-1 count, scoring one run. Byron Center took the lead for good with three runs in the fourth inning. Caledonia put up four runs in the third inning. AJ Szabo, Mitchell Smith, and Lawton powered the big inning with RBIs. Michael Douglass led things off on the mound for Caledonia. Douglass lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and eight runs while striking out five. Jacob Stoczynski and Carter Born entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one and one-third innings and one inning respectively. Caledonia tallied eight hits. Derrek Pennington and Nick Slater all managed multiple hits for the Scots. Slater and Pennington all had two hits to lead Varsity Caledonia Fighting Scots.
