Bears Win the PBR High School Invite
The Bears capped off an impressive weekend with a 4-3 win over Walsh Jesuit in the PBR Championship Game. After a 4-3 win in the opening round vs Ottawa Hills the Bears defeated a very talented Clay HS team 4-3 to earn a trip back to the PBR championship game for a rematch with Walsh Jesuit. Griffin Cochran went 3 innings in his first start of the year and Carson Pastorius entered in the 4th and pitched 3 in relief. Both pitchers kept the Warrior hitters off balance mixing up pitches all night. Just like the entire weekend the fireworks for the Bears again happened in the 7th inning... The Bears entered the 7th down 3-2 with the heart of the order coming up. Carter Mottice laced a single (misplayed by the RF) and ended up on 3B. Eric Freetage followed up with a RBI single to CF. The Bears capitalized on Nick Zito's bunt with a throwing error from the defense and after an intentional walk the bases were loaded for Kyle Benson... Kyle laced a 1-1 fastball to right field scoring Freetage to take the lead and set up a dramatic bottom of the 7th. Aiden Castile was called upon to closed out the 7th for the Bears. With the bases loaded Castile got the Walsh hitter on a 2-2 count to ground out the the SS (Hayden Dietz) to end the game 4-3. Tourney Notes: The Bears won all 3 games 4-3... and Congrats to Kyle Benson who was named Tourney MVP for having two huge 7th inning base hits to take the lead and secure the wins over Ottawa Hills in game 1 and Walsh Jesuit in the Championship Game.
