Laguna Beach, CA — The varsity golf teams from Laguna Beach High School and Newport Harbor High School faced off in a cross-conference match at the Ben Browns golf course at The Ranch in Laguna Beach, on April 18, 2023. Despite the Breaker's second-best team score of the season compared to par, 213, it was Newport Harbor High School that emerged victorious with a score of 178. The course at Ben Browns is short but narrow, and both teams had to navigate their way around it with skill and precision. Junior Evan Kretschmer had the round of the day for Laguna posting a 39, which is his career-best score at Ben Browns. Russell Franconi-Krychman also shot a 39 continuing his solid play this season. The other scores for Laguna included Ranen Seeck (45), Hudson Mills (45), Kiyan Arshadi (45), Preston Towe (46), Tristan Reidel (47), and Chase Tyson (47). Newport is a top division 1 school and their players all shot scores ranging from 33 to 38, demonstrating not only great skill and precision but also team depth, making it difficult for Laguna to keep up. While Laguna is disappointed with the loss, the players can take pride in another great team score coming off spring break.
