Fairfield, CA — Vanden Vikings Varsity defeated Wood Varsity Wildcats 4-0 on Thursday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Trevor Morse induced a fly out from Kai Koizumi to finish off the game. Alex Maushart pitched Vanden Vikings Varsity to victory. The lefty allowed two hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out 12. Morse threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen. Gavin Griffiths took the loss for Wood Varsity Wildcats. The hurler lasted four and two-thirds innings, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out five and walking one. Vanden Vikings Varsity smacked one home run on the day. Dalen Shipp had a homer in the fifth inning. The inning that setup Shipp’s 3 run homerun was with two outs with Hammerschmidt hitting a single down the left field line. After Hammershmidt stole second, it was Buckley’s RBI double that plated the first run for Vanden.Tranchina followed up with a base on balls setting up Shipp’s heroics.
