CA — Vanden Vikings Varsity stole the lead late in the game in a 9-7 victory over Fairfield Falcons Varsity on Friday. With one out in the top of the eighth Cody Buckley singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs. In the top of the eighth JoJo Torres was hit by a pitch and would later advance to 2nd after a wild pitch. Austin Hammerschmidt delivered an RBI single. Bats blistered as Vanden Vikings Varsity collected 11 hits and Fairfield Falcons Varsity tallied 12 in the high-scoring game. After Vanden Vikings Varsity scored one run in the top of the fifth, Fairfield Falcons Varsity answered with one of their own. Vanden Vikings Varsity scored when Jack Tranchina singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run. Brayden Bruno led things off on the mound for Vanden Vikings Varsity. The righthander lasted four innings, allowing three hits and one earned run while striking out five. Trevor Morse would throw the last four innings and pick up the victory. Vanden Vikings Varsity hit one home run on the day. Dalen Shipp had a homer in the third inning. That is the second of the week. Vanden Vikings Varsity scattered 11 hits in the game.
