South Pasadena, CA — The Varsity Tigers are now 3-0 to begin the 2023 campaign, defeating Excelsior Charter on Friday with a combination of solid pitching and timely hitting. Ben Petrillo started for the Tigers, going 3.1 innings and striking out two. Luke Riffle and Nolan Adams came on in relief, shutting Excelsior down and giving the Tigers the opportunity to break the tie with two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. RBIs from Quinn Sterling, Will Guy, Devin Robinson, and Nolan Adams as well as hits from Ivan Becerra, Raphi Hall, and Jason Yipp were enough to put the Tigers over the top. Next up the Tigers will face Lincoln on Saturday, February 18 at 10:00 a.m. in a non-league game.
