Irvine, CA — It was a festive Opening Day at Trojans Stadium. Baltimore Oriole Hall of Famer Doug DeCinces started the day speaking to the players in the newly renovated Players Area. 2023 Varsity Players displayed their new uniforms in lineup announcements and Vice Principal Pate threw out the ceremonial first pitch. The Cabrillo Jaguars from Long Brach jumped out to the early lead 1-0, but the Trojans offense responded in a big way with 10 runs in the bottom of the first to take a commanding lead. Trojans starting pitcher Cooper Berger shut the Jags scoreless for the next 3 innings. Luke Weston led the charge to more scoring with an Inside/the-Park Hone run. Senior co-captain Michael Doughtery closed it down in the 5th as the team cruised to a 19-1 victory. It was the first official Trojans win for new Coach Wesley Shaw. Trojan Army and Team celebrated day with Chili Cheese Hot Dogs and a cool Beverage.
