Medford, OR — Though a draw often feels unsatisfying, the Challenger girls can take away a plethora of positives from their 1-1 result against Brookings-Harbor. The Bruins only goal came on a penalty kick, meaning the defense held up well, and CCHS had opportunities throughout the day. Coach Jonathan Hillis says Cascade Christian came out strong for the first 10 minutes. 12 minutes in, Madyson Winters won a Brookings-Harbor goal kick that got played to Emma Coats who assisted Autumn Murray, who put one in the back of the net to make it 1-0. Coats and Hess had significant shots on goal as well as several other teammates. Not only did CCHS gets some good looks, but they also had a variety of players in the mix. Defender Jordynn Jones highlighted the Challengers’ defensive play by stopping a breakaway in the 22nd minute and played exceptional defense all 80 minutes. Brookings-Harbor’s lone goal came late in the match when a Cascade defender shielded her face against a ball in the box, and she was called for a handball. By Jim McCoy
