Burbank, CA — Greg Tripathi kicked a game-winning 46-yard field goal as Dos Pueblos defeated Burbank, 22-19, in a football season opener on Friday night in Burbank. Special teams were huge for Dos Pueblos in the win. Burbank scored a touchdown to tie the score at 19-19 with 2:21 left in the game, but the Chargers blocked the extra point. Junior quarterback Ryan Marsh moved the Chargers into position for Tripathi to attempt his game-winning kick. Dos Pueblos took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter on a bad snap by Burbank. Burbank went ahead 7-2 on a touchdown at 3:32 of the second quarter. The Chargers put together a good drive in the last three minutes and went ahead on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Marsh with 13 seconds left. Tripathi kicked the extra point for a 9-7 halftime lead. Tripathi made it 12-7 with a 32-yard field goal at 7:37 of the third period. Burbank turned a broken play into a touchdown to go up 13-12. It missed a two-point conversion. DP running back David Buso capped a drive with a 4-yard touchdown run and Tripathi nailed the PAT for a 19-13 advantage at 1:01 of the third period. The senior kicker came through in the clutch, making it a happy bus ride home for the Chargers.
