Fullerton, CA — Back to back 18-0 wins for our younger girls this week: yesterday Frosh / Soph, today Jr. Varsity. We thinned the herd out a bit, being oversold in the van; some had quarter ending schoolwork, some got to participate in the lopsided Varsity match. We got to Fullerton with exactly 9 players, but that’s all we needed. Everybody is an MVP today, all joining the 100% club. Neeka Barkhordar, Sophia Staff and Alma Byat all won 3 straight sets of singles. Alma wore out their # 3 player in round 1, coming from behind 2-4 to win 4 straight games by a set score of 6-4. Neeka defeated their top player, whom she beat last year as well, 6-4 in the opening round. Sophia Staff beat her 6-3, tiring her out for Alma who beat her 6-0 in the final round. She was a very worthy opponent for all 3 of our singles player. Kudos to the doubles teams of: Sophia Stewart and Caitlyn Davidson, Hailey Klein and Bella Aftabi, Jacquelyn Poli with Colette Chang ….who swept all 9 sets of doubles. Proud of Sophia and Caitlyn, who started slow, down 0-3, bouncing back to defeat their top doubles team 6-4 in the opening round. Nice comeback ladies. Hailey and Bella defeated their top doubles in a very strong round 2 set. Down 1-2 and 15-40, Hailey fought back w Bella at net to hold serve and continued on winning 5 straight games to close out the set. Nice job there. Thank you Russell Davidson and Dr. Ann Vu (Colette’s mom) for driving your daughters all the way up there. (and Kathie Gross :-) ! Next up, Thursday, Oct. 6th, home vs Orange Lutheran, 2:30pm.
