Recap
"When the Smoke Cleared"
San Juan Capistrano, CA — DAy 2 was much cooler than the past 2 days! Our boys competed very well today, most of the sets we came up short on were 6-8 or 7-8 tiebreaker losses. 2 or 3 'heart'breakers. Again, this compass style tournament keeps all players in; even if you lose, youjust move to another section of the draw, NE, NW, SE, SW [thus, the compass].
KOach Kirk notes; "I saw a lot of positive play out there today, especially in doubles. The boys played 'Aussie' formation a majority of the time, stayed back on opponent's 1st serves, hustled, communicated and switched correctly. Good day as we had a couple of teams, newly formed for this event. Big surprise today was the awesome play by Kenny Perez in doubles with Joe Bond. I believe Kenny would have been 1st or 2nd in the most aces served for the entire tournament!"
Zach fighting to the last point in the match to settle 3rd/4th place and same with Gary and Brady as they fell short in the championship doubles final to a big-time doubles team from La Jolla, were especially encouraging signs. Sam, MArco and Mikey moving up from JV to play against these highly ranked varsity programs was a great building experience.
La Jolla and Palisades Charter obviously traveled, so they had a little excuse, but, no school even came close to the parent and fan support our JSerra family gave us. Best parents/fans anywhere!
JSerra hosts Servite Monday before traveling to OLu next Wednesday.
