Irvine, CA — Just happy to have enough players at all 3 locations. JV with the help of some Varsity subs, came in 2nd place out of 4 teams, losing only this opening round to the ever tough University team, 2-6. Each mini-match consisted of 5 singles and 3 doubles sets. Most of the boys played SIX full sets of tennis - twice their normal amount! Kudos to Mikey Junge (6-3) and Sam Gou (6-1) who brought in the 2 wins playing singles vs University. Thanks guys for preventing a “bagel” match score.

Mikey Junge defeated a very fast serving #4 player from University to give us set #2 win. With some good defense, Mikey counter-punched, finding ways to move his opponent around and win the important points. Heard his opponent discussing with his coach, that Mikey won all the “no ad” sudden death points. That’s huge!

Yuan Gou

Sam Gou “tuned his guy like a fiddle” playing smart tennis, mixing heavy topspin with cutting slices in his own stylish way of playing… he just keeps on winning! This 6-1 win gave us the 1st set win of the long afternoon.
