Sandy Hook, CT — Saturday, December 18, 2021, 3:00 PM - Boys Varsity Basketball Wilton 55 - Newtown 52 In their season opener, the Newtown Nighhawks Boys basketball team lost a close contest, 55-52 to visiting Wilton. After starting slow and seeming a bit tight, the Boys made a great second half comeback. Trailing by 18 at the half, Newtown got in their groove and tightened their defense, outscoring Wilton in the second half 37-22 to finish with a flurry to get within 3 points. The Williams' brothers, Iasiah (Sr. Fwd.) and Elijah (Jr. Fwd.) led the way with their hustle, grit and determination to keep the Nighthawks in the game. Complimented by the scoring tandem of Liam O'Connor (16 pts) and Joe McCray (15 pts), the team showed their depth of character. The Boys take on Darien, Monday night, December 20th, 7PM at Newtown High School in their second non-conference game.
