Shailissa Jarrett (FR/Whittier, CA) started the game with a fastbreak layup to get the Royals on the board first and after stopping the Beavers on offense, Jeanette Fine drove to the basket to put the Royals up four. After the Beavers scored two straight baskets, Rhianne Omori (JR/Honolulu, HI) sunk a three-pointer to give HIU an 11-6 lead. The Royals led the Beavers 20-11 at the end of the first quarter. The Royals' defense continued to apply pressure on the Beavers and did not allow a CalTech basket until four minutes into the second quarter. After a three-pointer from Casey Fust (SO/Brea, CA), Surie Camacho (SO/Downey, CA) followed with a drive to the basket to give the Royals a fourteen-point lead halfway through the second frame. Rhianne Omori found Jeanette Fine at the wing for another HIU three-pointer. Two straight buckers from the Beavers cut the Royals lead to eight with a minute and a half to spare in the half to force an HIU timeout. Ana Resendiz (JR/Ontario, CA) drew a foul and made both of her free throws to put the Royals up 35-25 at the half. Jeanette Fine opened up the third quarter with a jumper in the paint off of a fastbreak. HIU forced six Beaver turnovers to hold the visitors scoreless the first four minutes of the third frame. The momentum shifted over to CalTech as the Beavers made three straight baskets, stopping the Royals from scoring until Omori drained another triple to put the Royals up 46-31. After a layup from Fine, the Royals led 53-34 with ten minutes left to play. The Royals continued to outscore the Beavers in each quarter and took the game 77-44. Shaine Talley posted her second double-double of the season with 11 rebounds and 12 points.
