Recap
Both teams watching the final, back and forth tie-breaker set with Cecilia Nama on court.
San Juan Capistrano, CA — The lopsided score does not tell the whole story. Yes, Santa Margarita is very solid this year, from top to bottom, however, JSerra is the only team to even get a set of the Eagle’s JV team this year in Trinity League.
We lost 1 tie-breaker, another 5-7 set, and 4 sets 4-6. Most of the other sets were 3-6. We will have an opportunity to end some of these girls season with improved play at the Trinity League Tournament later this month.
Alma Bayat beat their #3 player 6-4, then defeated an alternate at #2 to earn MVP honors - well done. Honorable mention and kudos to Cecilia Bayat who battled for over an hour with a sub at line #3, in a well played back and forth tie-breaker set, with everybody watching.
Doubles teams, starters and alternates, had chances to win several sets and should be able to do better in the League tournament.
Sophia Staff, who had been 6 for 6 in her last 2 matches playing singles, got an opportunity to play and learn doubles with 2 diff partners today. Pairs, as instructed, we’re doing a consistent job of the defensive strategy “2 back on 1st serve” and Australian style offensive strategy which allowed us to get close on some of the doubles sets.
Everybody who showed up got into this Trinity League match, which is not always the case. We should be able to sub somewhat liberally next week vs Rosary and Orange Lutheran.
Next up: vs Rosary at Fullerton Tennis Center, Tuesday, Oct. 19th, 2:30pm. (Travel Squads - tbd)
