Recap
Happy Team!
Rancho Santa Margarita, CA — The Lions defeated Santa Margarita for the 2nd time this year; this time 12 - 6 on THEIR courts!
The first victory was 9-9 74-70 on game count, no need to count games this time! SOP transfers Jazmine Aftabi and Halley Parker were both in the lineup today which was a big help. SitOutPeriod was over last week, but, Halley was injured and just became available. They both added 2 points each, Jazmine in singles, while Halley teamed up with Victoria Oh. Kylie Davidson with Sophia Moncur took all 3 doubles sets, in doing so, sent KOach to CVS for few tubes of Grecian Grey!...mainly their tiebreaker in round 2 which went 13-11 ! They were down several match points. Elise Early set the stage 'early' [sorry, not good journalism, I know] with an epic win vs SMs line 2 player Vicky Zhang, 7-5! This match was back 'n forth right up to the end... Gabbi Basa added the one-two punch by dismantling her 6-1! At this point, Zhang apparently cried "uncle" and was subbed out instead of facing Jazmine. Jazmine took 4 games off the reigning Trinity League Champion, Bianca Molnar and blanking her other 2 opponents with double bagels. Anna and Aerin lost a close tiebreaker set in round 1, but, were able to pick up a set at line 3.
KOach Kirk notes, "This is the 2nd time in 3 years that we have swept the SM series, not an easy feat. I believe the practice on a no-school day helped ALOT and really appreciate the girls driving in on their day off. We dropped down 1 spot in the CIF poll, from 2 to 3, hopefully, this will let us move back up. It would obviously be beneficial to get back up the the 2 spot, to help control who we play in the CIF team event. We can not look past OLu, they historically play us tough at home. Then we can relax and play like we have nothing to lose, cuz we don't, vs Mater Dei on senior day, October 26th! I'd really like to thank the parents who traveled to SM today and the subs who attended, but, did not get to play. We appreciate ALL of you!
ALSO. Today is my son's birthday, so, I consider this win a Father's Day gift from the team!"
Your victory today earned you and the rest of the VARSITY team the day off tomorrow!
GO LIONS!
