Laguna Beach, CA — After a late start and leaving 4 top players “home” to participate in a JV match (thank you!) we took 12 players to Laguna Beach and won the first match of the season by a score of 13-5. In an all doubles format, each JSerra player got 3 full sets of tennis in. The Lady Lions “swept” the opening round of play, winning all 6 sets, including 3 tie-breakers. 3 doubles teams won all 3 sets played, earning themselves MVP honors: Elliana Castro and Colette Chang; Abby Godber and Shuyang Zhang; Maya Stroupe and Viana Poggi. Gia Banks-Meeker and Aurora Moore won 2 of 3 sets played in the tough “upper half” of the draw. Congrats to 4 team members winning their first sets of high school tennis today: Natalie Schumacher with Mason Mason Breneman and Lucca Lutz with Melina Kashi. Great team effort today ladies! Our young players are starting to jell, learning more and more each match. We will play Laguna Beach again, later in the season, in a split double-header format at both schools on the same afternoon.
