San Juan Capistrano, CA — Our Frosh Soph B & C “travel squads” showed up en masse to battle the Monarchs of Mater Dei on a very hot Saturday afternoon. Still confused if they are lions, kings or butterflies; regardless, they left victorious. We took a team picture under the scoreboard as a motivational reminder that Mater Dei is in the Trinity League, and the girls will be meeting them on the JV and Varsity levels later in their careers, hopefully with better results. After the match, Coach Wilson had this to say about her team’s efforts today: “The Frosh Soph team did well today against Mater Dei. Despite only being the girls second match this season, and for some their first ever, the girls came out with much excitement and improved skill. Two sets were lost in tie breaks. Kaitlyn, Neeka and Breanna won 2 sets for us with our other win coming from Abby and Mary. Keep it up Lions!” The match was a little closer than final score: JSerra lost 2 tiebreakers, 2 sets 4-6 and 2 sets 3-6, which were both back and forth tied at 3-3 midway through. Great efforts in fighting back by Emily and Evelyn, who came from behind 3-5 to force a tiebreaker in their exciting, 3rd round match on court #4. Same kudos to Bryanna and Neeka, who forced a TB in the opening round of play on court #1 against the Monarchs top team after battling back from 3-5. Kaitlyn Donner, one of our MVPs for the day, joined the 100% club by winning BOTH sets played - well done. MVP honors also go out to Neeka Barkhordar and Bryanna Noorian who teamed up alternately to win with Kaitlyn. Abby Godber and Mary Murphy are MVP’s today as well with a 6-3, 2nd round win. With the all doubles format, almost everybody got 2 full sets in and our parent / family support was HUGE! - thank you. Next up: Friday home match vs Newport Harbor, 2:30pm.
