Sandy Hook, CT — Newtown held off a potent Weston attack in the first half, and most of the second on September 21 in the newly refurbished Blue and Gold Stadium. With 15 minutes remaining in the contest, Weston scored on the short side off a free kick 20 yards out. Despite the loss, Newtown Head Coach Marc Kenney was pleased with his team's play. "This was a very high quality game between two very good SWC teams. We took giant strides tonight in our toughness and ability to focus on a very specific tactical adjustment. It was a tale of two halves. We were fair in the first, and outstanding in the second half. We created opportunities and limited theirs. In the end, this was our best performance to date," Kenney said. Kenney also credited goalkeeper Ryan Heim-Sherwood with keeping the Nighthawks in it, especially in the first half. He was also pleased with the better commitment to defending of the back four, led by senior captains Ally McCarthy and Elena Sughrue. Going forward, Kenney looks to turn this improvement into wins.
