Huntington Beach, CA — Click the link below to watch a video recap of this game http://www.hudl.com/v/2FjkcH The Frosh Elsinore Tigers traveled to Huntington Beach on Thursday, 9/2/21 to face the Marina High School Vikings. The game was evenly matched, but the Vikings took advantage of opportunities and the Tigers made too many critical mistakes on this day, as Marina pulled away with a 33-7 victory. On offense, the Tigers continued improving their rushing attack behind strong performances by linemen Isaac Martinez and Aaron Knopf and leading rusher Adrian Stankevich. Quarterback Ryder Wood had an outstanding comeback performance in every phase of the game, providing lead blocks and completing deep passes under heavy pressure to Aedin Chamberlain and Joaquin Matias, who scored on a 44 yard pass. Maybe the best play of the game was when Wood threw an interception on a screen pass and took on 3 Vikings to slow up the returner while Chamberlain and Armani Elam hustled to bring him down. The Tiger defense would hold. This type of effort play demonstrates the type of excellence that will carry our Tigers to success on and off the field. Defensively, the Tigers started strong, forcing the Vikings to turn the ball over on downs 3 times on the goal line. The Tiger defense was highlighted by the tackling of Linebackers Kruse Podsiadly, Landon Hawkins, and Ethan Navarro along with defensive lineman Adrian Avila. However, the early effort the Tigers made would prove to wear them down, with the Vikings creating big plays in the run and pass game to pull away. The Tigers will look to strive for excellence and integrity this week as they turn their focus to the Falcons of Scripps Ranch High School from San Diego at home on Thursday, 9/9/21 at 4pm. We hope to see you there!
