Olney, IL — The Carterville girls’ cross country team continued their impressive season with a dominant victory at the Olney Invitational on Saturday, September 21. Led by Molly Robertson’s commanding first-place finish, the Lions secured the team title with a series of strong individual performances. Robertson set a blistering pace early in the race, crossing the finish line with a winning time of 18:48. Her performance was the fastest of the day, setting the tone for Carterville’s overall victory. Close behind Robertson was teammate Lyla Seaman, who finished in second place with a time of 19:28, further solidifying Carterville’s control of the meet. Laney Sambursky followed as the team’s third runner, placing in the top twelve with a time of 20:50. Marcela Wood (22:21) and Dani Williamson (22:54) were part of the top 5 runners scoring for the Lions, both delivering consistent runs that helped seal the team’s win. Lillian Carsrud (23:13) and Landry Crain (23:42) put their best efforts on the course as part of the top 7 runners. On the boys' side, Carterville finished 5th overall. August Anderson paced the team with a 5th-place finish in 16:51. James Samples and Reece Scott finished close together with a 22nd (17:39) and 26th (17:46) place finish. Mason Webb (35th, 18:15), and Rowan Beyke (39th, 18:30) were close behind to help Carterville capture 5th place. Nick Korte (59th, 19:18) and Nick Wilhelm (61st, 19:20) rounded out the scoring runners. Triad took home the boys' team title, followed closely by Herrin, Notre Dame de La Salette, Olney, and Carterville as the top 5 teams for the boys race.
