Kyleigh Thompson and Mya Baldwin with their medals at the Clare Invitational
Mancelona, MI — The girls ski team competed in the Clare Invitational on Monday. The ten team race was held on the Face at Schuss Mountain, which is one of the best race venues in the state of Michigan featuring 550 vertical feet of challenging steep terrain. The Scots skied well and ended up 6th in ten team field.
"Today's race was extra special since we got to race against Hudsonville and Plainwell TK, who we used to share training space with at our former resort. Both teams have some great skiers and it was fun seeing them on the slopes at Schuss."
"Schuss can be an intimidating place to ski, it is as steep or steeper than anything we train on or ski but much higher but our girls were ready to ski it and did so with confidence. We really focused on running the right line and where to generate speed versus where to maintain it and we did not have a single DQ or DNF at the race." Coach Petrosky "Mya Baldwin Kyleigh Thompson really skied well for the team today and are peaking as we close in on Regionals next Monday. Mya medaled in both events (10th SL and 13th GS). Kyleigh medaled in slalom with a 15th place finish and also scored with an 18th in GS"
Also scoring for the Scots were Zosia Skrzypek 27th SL & 28th GS, Liz Hilton 23rd SL and Madison Reynolds 26th GS.
The Scots final conference races will be held on Wednesday at Crystal Mountain. There will be a morning race and an afternoon race followed by the Lake Michigan Ski Conference Awards ceremony in the Northwest Territories Room at Crystal Mountain.
