Recap
Nampa, ID — What a great weekend!! I want to start off by saying the myself and the coaching staff are extremely proud of how the kids performed this weekend. We had a lot of season bests and personal bests all the way through the meet. The 60's started the night out on Friday and everyone did great!! We qualified 4 boys (Khalil, Cam, Ethan, and Jaymon) and 4 girls (Lizza, Keyondra, Jazz, and Becca) for the final Saturday morning. We had numerous other pr's in the event which means that......the kids hard work is paying off and they are getting faster!! Moving into the hurdles Julia qualified for the final Saturday. The 200 started off with Emily battling it out in the 1st heat and just getting out leaned at the tape, but set the stage for the excitment of the night. She also ran a new PR in the process. Maddy and Rachel also battled out in their heats to set indoor PR's and looked strong doing so!! As the heats wore on, we saw many fantastic performances by the girls. Jazz finished 2nd overall with a time of 25.90 and Lizza and Becca finishing 6th and 8th overall. Great job ladies!!! The boys kicked of the 200's next with more outstanding performances and at least 10 new pr's. A big shout out to Grant for running a Lifetime best 25.55....he was running in the 28's last year...Weight Room!!!! We capped off the night with Khalil, Jaymon and Ethan all finishing in the top 6 for the event.
Our field events saw our jumpers take it to new heights and distances!! Jaycob Atencio threw the weight for a PR and a 6th place finish overall. Just really picking up the event this season shows his dedication to a very technical event!! Our boys long jump saw Kobe it a PR of 19' and KJ a PR and his first event final of 20-9.5". Finishing 6th overall. Our girls LJ opened up with Keelie hitting a PR of 16-3". Ally, while competing in the PV and the HJ at the same time popped a 17-6 jump to finish 6th overall and Tori jumped 18-4 to finish 3rd overall while also competing in the HJ where she finished 2nd overall...actually tied for 1st but with the tie break rules...Grant leaped 5-10.75 to take 4th overall in the boys HJ.
Saturday kicked off again with the speed!!!! Lizza and Keyondra finished tied for 7th overall in the 60 while Jazz and Becca finished 10th and 13th overall. Great work!! The boys 60 saw Ethan take the first heat with a time of 7.23 to vault him to 5th overall while Khalil finished 2nd in his heat and 2nd overall!! Cam finished 12 overall. Great job guys....
Julia had a tough go of it in the hurdle finals, but hey!!! "Mama said there'd be days like this.." but she also bounced back and blazed the track in the 400 winning her heat by about 20 meters!! That's how you bounce back from a tough performance!!!! The girls ran incredible in the 400!! Again Rachel went out hard and held on for a 3 second season best of 1:07.5. We all were aggressive going out in the first half of the race (just like they were coached to) and then held on with toughness and determination to see many season bests!! Lizza and Becca finished up 1st overall and 4th overall with times of 59.11 and 59.49 overall!!! Great job to everyone!!! The boys followed up with another 4 second PR from Nathan on the first heat!!! We looked strong and the boys competed great Taylor fought to the end in his heat...Aiden B ran a PR in his heat and Ethan (finally got him to run a 400 this season) ran a 52.8 to finish 10th overall.
Our field events slowed a little bit on Saturday with only Jaycob competing in the Shot (had a good day, but not his best). Paige, Keyondra, and Nicole all Triple Jumped their way into the finals finishing 7th, 8th, and 9th overall!!! Way to go.
We finished the meet off with some great Relays in the 4x200. We have talked about finishing all season long with the kids....in the weight room, in the classroom, and on the track...and boy did they ever finish with a BANG!!! The boys 4 relays all ran exceptionally well and competed on all 4 legs. The A team finished with a 3rd place finish and a time of 1:32.48.
The girls relays also did great. Our early heats were competitive and they looked great!!! With all the teams running between 1:52 and 1:54. A lot of first timers, but great Competitors. Our B relay team came out and just got edged in their heat, but still ran a great time of 1:48.22. In the final heat of the night for the girls, the team of Jazz, Lizza, Emma, and Becca put on a show and led from start to finish and clocked a Club record of 1:43.86 to win the event. This time also ranks them in the Top 25 Nationally for HS/Club girls. What a great meet with an outstanding finish in the relays...which almost always seem to be the most fun part of the meet because the TEAM gets to compete together!! I am so proud of the way the kids competed and am looking forward to the next 2 weeks and seeing what they can amaze the coaches with at Simplot!!! Overall we had 33 Top 12 finishes with 15 being in the Top 6 and 2 relays in the Top 3.
It was also nice to see a large group of our kids show up at BIg Als after the meet to hang out with SUGU from Oregon. As coaches, we hope that the kids can meet and develop friendships with kids from another area and team. This will be an annual event that we will be doing with them after the Boise Indoor, so in your spare time, keep bowling so we will again take the crown next year!!!!
