Recap
Modesto, CA — The Pitman Cross Country teams competed in CCAL #3 yesterday, which is their last regular season meet. All of the athletes did amazing on a cool, windy race day, with many athletes achieving "Personal Records" or PR's. (See below for more on that). Highlighting the day for Pitman was the Varsity Girls, who brought home the CCAL League Championship!
After the race All-League Team awards were also announced. Represented from Pitman were:
Varsity Girls First Team: Aubrey Lascano, Nayli Mattison, and Adelyn Persons
Varsity Girls Second Team: Kayla Thompson and Emerson Newton
Varsity Girls Honorable Mention: Avery Carlson
Varsity Boys First Team: Julius Camacho
Varsity Boys Honorable Mention: Frankie Miguel
The seniors on our team were honored, as well, for their hard work and dedication to the team. Senior banners were displayed during the race and all of the seniors from all of the teams were brought up to be honored during the awards ceremony.
Next up for the Pride is the Sub-Section meet on the grueling Frogtown course, with a chance to go to sections on the line. The team will be working hard this next week to be ready for race day.
As mentioned above, many athletes achieved PR's yesterday. For those who are not aware of the goals of a cross country season, all athletes throughout the season are pushing themselves to achieve better times as the seasons goes on. Often, it can be difficult to see the hard work pay off by just looking at race times, because in cross country all courses are different. Some have small hills, others large hills (Frogtown), while some are run on relatively smooth surfaces, but some are more rocky, like the Section course in Folsom. This year our CCAL #1 and CCAL #3 races were run on the same course, which gives us a great oppurtunity to see the progress that our athletes have made. Below is a listing of the Varsity team members who imporoved their time from CCAL #1 to CCAL #3, how much their time improved, and if this was a PR race for them. It is clear that our athletes work is paying off. Great job team!
