On September 28th, 2023 Goddard Cross Country raced in their 5th race of the season in Halstead, Kansas! Much excitement surrounded Halstead throughout the week as it was a course we felt we could run some PRs on and get some good results! Grinding through a hot week of practice the temperatures presented a challenge for the Lions making it hard to run fast race times yesterday. At the Varsity Level we did not run our best race times of the season, but we had some excellent results that I will note below. Our JV Runners performed at a very high level yesterday earning medals and for some runners getting a PR!
Highlights of Halstead:
Our Varsity Boys team placed 3rd as a team! We narrowly edged other schools and did a fantastic job! SouthEast of Saline and Hutch Trinity got the best of Goddard; two very powerful schools. We will not race these schools in league/regionals but this race will help prepare the Lions for competition going forward!
Our JV Boys team took 2nd place overall! We had a lot of excellent performances that I will note below. JV runners you should be very proud!
We had 12 Runners Medal Yesterday! Luke Griffith, Nathan Lewis, Zoe Bahner, Zoe Liedl, Hope Gettings, Rachel Povall, Lucas Jahay, Eli Griffith, Alex Aguilera, Brendan Martling, Cooper Hudson, and Cole Bennington all earned medals yesterday!
3 runners yesterday ran their best race of the season as they inch closer to their PRs! Ayden Smith, Cooper Hudson, and Adam Vincent.
We had 5 runners PR yesterday! Lucas Jahay placed 7th overall in the JV Boys race and ran a PR of 20:20! Alex Aguilera ran a PR at 22:20, Kyle Horschel ran a PR at 33:33, Drake Maples ran a PR at 29:52, and Jordy Doornbos ran a PR at 29:59!
The Lions now look to Wichita Trinity ran on Saturday October 7th! Look at the future forecast it looks like we will have Highs in the 60's presenting a wonderful opportunity for the Lions to compete and run fast race times! After Wichita Trinity the Lions approach League Competion and Regionals! Great job Lions at Halstead! We had a lot of great performances yesterday and did well as a team!
GO LIONS!
