Charleston, IL — PNTRACK GETS SHUT OUT AT STATE MEET FOR FIRST TIME SINCE 2013 Zero points scored. 4x4 misses All-State by only 1.04 seconds. 4x8 runs in finals but finishes 10th (top-9 score), misses All-State by only 0.45 seconds. But we had a terrific season with one of the youngest teams in the state. We ran EIGHT SECONDS faster than we had during the season. Our time finishes the season ranked 3A #13 and Pntrack #1 All-Time. This was the first time a Plainfield North 4x8 has ever run in the state finals and we missed the ninth place medal by only 0.53 seconds. Senior Ryan Tracey 4x8 *Fr: 2:18.3 Soph: 2:03.1 Junior 2:01.8 Senior 1:59.1 *Only ran it once due to Covid canceling season Freshman Thomas Czerwinski had an epic year, the best of any freshman PN D-Crew guy ever. Seems impossible for Thomas to run a 1:59.65 when his best 4x4 split was 56.1. Thomas also set marks in the 16/32 of 4:34 and 9:48… both were bettered by freshman teammate Aidan Connors (4:32 and 9:44, both PN freshman records). In Pntrack history, only one distance runner has ever won a medal (Ryan Maseman, 3rd in 800, 2021). Only Ryan Maseman, Austin Stone, Owen Stahl, Easton Miller, Thomas Czerwinski, and Ryan Tracey have ever run in a distance final. Three of those guys return next year. We return guys who ran 4x8 splits of 1:56.5, 1:57.3, 1:59.7, 2:01.4, and 2:03.9 The long drought is about to come to an end. 4x4 RUNS SEASON-BEST TIME IN PRELIMS 3:24.00 Alex Brennan 50.0 Easton Miller 50.9 Paul McCormick 52.1 Own Stahl 50.6* Pntrack #6 best All-Time Final rank #20 IL 3A Alex Brennan’s 50.0 split, running in the worst lane (lane one of a nine-lane track) is the second best leadoff guy in Pntrack history. Only Marquis Flowers (49.3) has run faster. Remember, leadoff times are typically ONE SECOND slower than the other three splits due to starting at velocity-zero. Alex Brennan ran a 54.3 split in the 4x4 last year. This is the 2nd consecutive year that we’ve had a distance guy transfer to the sprint group, resulting in an MVP season (last year, Armaan Rehmani). Alex did not make our roster for the first indoor meet at Lakes. Alex’s max velocity improved from 19.3 mph to 22.0 mph (amazing) allowing him to improve his 4x4 split from 54.3 to 50.0. Owen Stahl’s best 4x4 split last year was 56.3, this year 50.6. Easton Miller improved from 54.7 to 50.3 None of these four guys ran in a varsity 4x4 last season. This was Paul McCormick’s first year of track… and he was a state qualifier. Our three returning 4x4 guys have run 50.0, 50.3, and 50.6 ranking #11, #14, #15 Pntrack All-Time. Zander Pauly returns too (51.2 in 2022 season). Only 1.04 seconds kept us from being one of nine teams in the finals. In 2024, we will have the best returning 4x4 in school history. The PRs of Brennan, Miller, Stahl, and Pauly add up to 3:22.1 FLIGHT CREW MAGIC COMES TO AN END Only Batavia qualified more jumpers than Nico Capezio’s Flight Crew (Batavia 4, PN 3) After a fantastic sectional (Cyracus 22’6” in LJ, Amoo-Otto 43’11” in TJ, and Cardillo 43’10” in TJ), our jumpers had an off day. Strange, but the jumps were poor for everyone. Get this… 28 long jumpers in 3A - no PRs 32 triple jumpers in 3A - only 5 PRs Nik Cardillo improved from 41’7” as a junior to 44’5” as a senior (SPC Champion!) Kwame Amoo-Otoo improved from 40’5” as a sophomore to 43’11” as a junior. Keith Cyracus improved from 20’6” as a freshman to 22’5” as a sophomore. DEMIR ASHIRU Running only his 3rd 300 INT race of the season (due to ankle injury), Demir Ashiru did not run as well as he did at Conference or Sectional. We will always dream of how good Demir would have been if he’d run track for four years (ran only junior and senior season) and if he’d not sprained his ankle badly in late March of his senior year. Still, Demir’s best times rank him #7 Pntrack All-Time in the 110 HH (15.33) and #6 Pntrack All-Time in the 300 INT (40.26). BURNS 26TH DAVIS 31ST Oliver Burns had a frustrating outdoor season. The senior captain had led his XC to a glorious 4th place finish in the IHSA XC Championships and placed 5th in 3A as an individual back in the fall. At the SPC Indoor, Oliver won the 3200 and broke our school record running 9:22.21. Running ten seconds faster two months later seemed within Oliver’s reach (9:14 finished 5th in 3A). Oliver ran well in his 3200, but 17 seconds slower than he ran indoors in March, placing 26th. Oliver was a great captain and his work ethic will have a ripple effect on our distance culture for years to come. Quinn Davis did not PR, running 9:41, but what a season for the sophomore! His 9:31.70 makes him the fastest FS 3200 runner in the history of Plainfield North (#6 Varsity All-Time). Quinn improved from 10:18 as a freshman to 9:31 as a sophomore. Quinn also ran a 2:03.9 split in the 4x8 and 4:28.94 in the 1600. CONNORS BREAKS FR MILE RECORD IN “RACE AT STATE” Aidan Connors has rewritten the freshman D-Crew record books. Indoor/Outdoor 3200 Outdoor 1600 Indoor/Outdoor 4x8 Aidan ran 4:32.33 on Friday night, only four seconds from the FS record held by graduating senior Oliver Burns (4:28.22). Freshman teammate, Gavin Hall, also ran a 1600 PR of 4:39.53 Our All-Star Freshman Milers Connors 4:32 Czerwinski 4:34 Hall 4:39 Maso 4:48 Schmauderer 4:51 Kyrychenko 4:56 Araiza 4:59 C. Anderson 5:03
