FLIGHT CREW
What a job by Coach Capezio!
Most jumpers we’ve ever taken to a state meet = ONE.
This year we take Kwame, Nik, and Keith!
SUPER SOPH CYRACUS
Keith Cyracus now ranks #16 in 3A
Only one sophomore ranks higher (Joshua Hill of Crete has jumped 3” further)
CAPTAIN CARDILLO
Nik Cardillo qualified with a triple jump of 43’10”
KWAME SAVES BEST FOR LAST
Finally healthy, Kwame Amoo-Otoo unleashed a PR 43’11.5”
Pntrack #3 All-Time (Cardillo #2)
TWO 2-MILERS Q
In the brief history of Plainfield North (16 graduating classes), only one guy has qualified in the 3200 (Andrew Sandoval, 2011)
Congrats Oliver Burns and sophomore Quinn Davis!
ASCENDING ASHIRU
Demir Ashiru missed the entire outdoor season due to a sprained ankle (wore a boot for several weeks).
Demir accomplished mission impossible at our conference meet, running 41.49 in the outermost lane of the slowest heat (had to be entered as “NT”, NO TIME).
The 41.49 at conference placed Demir 5th in the SPC… a miracle.
But, the 41.49 did not get Demir into the fast heat at our stacked Sectional.
Another miracle was required.
40.26 won his slow heat and placed Demir 4th overall, beating five guys in the fast heat.
All-Time Best Pntrack 300 hurdlers:
Annile Williams 38.90
DeVaughn Hrobowski 39.48
Josh Moore 39.73
Corey Johnson 40.08
Demir Ashiru 40.26
4x8 QUALIFIES
Even though we qualified, our time was disappointing.
This 4x8 is a 7:53 team.
8:01 gives us a chance to race again.
Though disappointed with our performance, we are super-excited to qualify.
In our historical rankings, this team remains 4th.
Our school record of 7:59.60 should not remain after next week.
Congrats to Ryan Tracy, Easton Miller, Thomas Czerwinski, and Owen Stahl for punching their ticket to state.
4x4 QUALIFIES
The situation with our 4x4 is EXACTLY like our 4x8.
Excited about qualifying, frustrated with our performance.
WE ARE A 3:22 - 3:23 4x4 TEAM
Not in my worst projections did I think we would barely qualify running 3:27.
How could we have zero PRs in our season's biggest race?
But, we were good enough to extend our season one more week and compete on the big stage.
Congrats to Alex Brennan, Easton Miller, Paul McCormick, and Owen Stahl for punching their ticket to state.
ZANDER QUIETLY HAS HIS BEST NIGHT
We lost our fastest guy, Victor Patterson two weeks ago (injured foot running into a wall).
Our 4x1 and 4x2 would have, most likely, qualified with a healthy Victor.
Zander Pauly put our 4x1 briefly in the lead running a great 2-leg.
In the 4x2, Zander ran a season-best 21.9 split. Even without Victor, our 4x2 was only 0.24 seconds from qualifying. Sheesh.
Zander came back and ran a season best 23.12 in the 200.
Check out our RETURNING sprinters:
Victor Patterson 22.83
Keith Cyracus 23.00
Alex Brennan 23.06
Omar Coleman 23.12
Zander Pauly 23.12
Conner Gramley 23. 21
Antonio Anderson 23.75
Maki Armstrong 23.89
EVAN’S END
Evan Gavras improved incredibly in his high school career.
Evan improved his speed from 19.5 mph to 21.8 mph from his junior to senior year.
He improved his PR in the 110 HH from 15.70 to 15.30.
15.30 would have qualified.
However, Evan hit too many early hurdles and placed 7th, running 16.00
Evan responded like a champion attacking his 300 hurdles from a disadvantaged lane-one.
Having a chance to win the race, Evan hit the final hurdle, fell, and rolled over the finish line.
Even with the fall, Evan ran 41.66, last year’s PR was 45.01
Evan remains a viable alternate in our qualifying 4x4.
MAGIC RUNS OUT FOR RAY
Ray Vanichtheeranont is the most improved pole vaulter in the world.
Junior Year - 7’5”
Senior Year - 14’2”
Ray’s story is one that I will forever tell.
However, the magic ran out for Ray when he failed to clear his opening height of 13’2” three times.
This sometimes happens in the vault.
Neuqua’s potential state champion, Nick Pennington, also no-heighted.
