MSHS Boys Parent & Athlete Meeting Recap
OneMaize Boys Swimming & Diving - Parent & Athlete Meeting
Wichita, KS — Hi Mavericks!
It was wonderful to see you all last night. Thank you for attending. Here are the highlights:
Monday, November 14th - First Day of Practice
Your athlete will swim or dive that day. Please make sure that they have what they need to do so. Your athlete’s forms will need to be turned in to the front office at MSHS. Your athlete will need a swimsuit, goggles (swimmers), towel, and water bottle.
Friday, November 18th - Apparel Orders Due
Please order your apparel ASAP! Apparel orders must be in to receive your team swimsuit (uniform) before our first swimming & diving meet. This swimsuit is the athlete’s suit for meets. You will need a practice swimsuit for practice. The team store is listed on our Blast site, Fan Store. Your athlete will receive a free team t-shirt, please make sure you select the athlete one for them. Parents, if you’d like to order your own, please do. It’s listed under the Parent T-shirt.
Fundraising:
We use the Blast platform to raise funds to help with our program and connect with our fans. There is not a set amount that has to be achieved per athlete. We want athlete participation. Athletes provide a total of 20 potential donors' phone numbers and/or email addresses. Examples of potential donors would be family members, friends, and neighbors. Blast then sends a text message or email to the potential donors. Your athlete’s information (cell phone number) is never given out to anyone. If the donor wants to participate, they can donate to their athlete or the team in general.
The great thing about Blast is that gives donors the opportunity to follow the Maverick season’s success for as little as $10. They will receive weekly updates on their favorite athlete and the team via email. There is a buy-out option for those who do not want to participate; it’s $250.
General Diving Information:
We can only have 3-4 divers participate at each diving meet. We will have tryouts for these spots. You do not have to have any experience to claim a spot. You will be taught to dive. Anyone interested is encouraged to come to try diving during the first week of practice. We’d love to have you join us.
Volunteers:
We will need volunteers for our OneMaize meets. We co-host with MHS. The first one is December 2nd & 3rd. More details are coming soon.
FAQ: (I received these last night)
—Where can I find my athlete’s gear for the first day?
Most sporting goods stores have swimsuits, goggles, and water bottles. The Starting Block is a specialty store here in town. They have weird hours; I’d suggest calling first (316-558-3700) to make sure they’re open. They have the best selection of gear.
—Can I dive and swim?
Yes. You can swim only, dive only, and participate in both. The coaches will work out a schedule for your participation in the two sports.
—My swimmer participates on a club team. They have a meet during the same time as an MSHS swim meet. What do I do to attend the club swimming meet?
You will need to talk to Coach Gibson. Your athlete will need to complete a dual participation form and have it approved ASAP.
—My athlete wants to swim in college. Whom can I talk to about it?
Coach Heather can help you navigate the different tools that are available for recruitment at the varying levels, NAIA - D1.
—My athlete wants to play another winter sport and be on the swim team. Can I do that?
Yes. The athlete and coaches will work on the practice and meet schedules.
If you were unable to attend the meeting or didn’t receive a copy of the paperwork that was provided, it has been attached to Blast under the Contact/Forms tab.
Whew! That’s a lot of information. If you have questions, please let me know.
Thanks,
Coach Heather
